3 years, 4 contracts, 881 days, 3 positions, 3 continents, 45 countries, 92 cities, 23 air connections, a world tour, a storm, and so on. Countless experiences and numerous great friendships.
Many more things that I could count until tomorrow morning. It was difficult at the beginning but eventually it got better over time. I have seen poverty, wealth, cleanness and dirt during my travels. Lots of laughter, fun, memorable moments and of course so many working hours. But now I don’t want to talk about the job.
The most important thing that everybody has to learn is how to survive. You are in the middle of nowhere in a relatively small boat. You are going somewhere but you never know if you will reach that place or not, because the sea is always the boss. It can give you hard and very rough times. You can be scared but brave at the same time. I had my very first storm right after we sailed away from Sydney in April 2015. No words can describe the feelings. That night was more than enough for me. However, it’s all an ill wind that blows nobody good.
During these three years I have been part of so many things that I had never imagined before. I always wondered what the turquoise sea or a carefree walk along the white sandy beach or collecting shells and being free might be. Seeing the world’s greatest things. In order to achieve your dreams all you need is courage, tendentiousness and persistence. So make your own bucket list and make your dreams come true!
In my free time I did everything I could. Sometimes I had a few hours break or a half-day off. I had to plan every single seconds and I loved it.
One of the greatest moments was swimming with the dolphins in Cozumel (Mexico). After this experience I just couldn’t help myself. I kissed a ray in Grand Cayman (Stingray City, Cayman Islands). Swimming with the sharks was also adventurous in Moorea (French Polynesia), I booked this tour twice. At the second time I took a selfie with a shark in the background. Crazy as it may sound, the tour wasn’t dangerous. The only thing not allowed was to feed the sharks. I think it was quite an extraordinary experience. It was a little challenge for me but I loved every second of it. I wish I could do it again but in a different place.
In Bali I had the opportunity to take pictures with a giant fruit bat. I should be glad to know how I could even touch it because I’m really afraid of bats. Maybe at that moment I had no time to think about it. I have to mention it was pretty ugly. Though I don’t mind at all!
In addition, I climbed four volcanoes, including the Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano (Italy). Other good things just to mention some: overnight birthday celebration in Honolulu (Hawaii), swimming among the most famous and romantic bungalows in Tahiti, and helicopter tours over glaciers in Alaska.
I had seen photos of these places in television and newspapers before. Now I know that they are real and not just photoshopped.
Thanks to a dear friend of mine, after my first contract I was all smiles. I was even interview by a Hungarian newspaper, my story was on the front page. Everyone deserves a little fame, don’t they? My parents and friends read the article proudly. They supported me along the way, I couldn’t have made it without them. I’m very grateful to them.
I would like to conclude my short story with one of my favourite quotes:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the blowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sail. Explore. Dream. Discover.”(Mark Twain)
